One thing I’ve seen with my current clients and with online business owners in general is that people. are. overwhelmed.
Duh – not a newsflash, I know, but stick with me here. While feeling overwhelmed is a totally normal human emotion right now and not something that needs to be “fixed”, it IS something that’s been holding a lot of people back in the last month or so. But it doesn’t have to.
No matter what stage of business you’re at, I bet you’ve felt the drain of overwhelm lately and know it’s getting in your way of moving forward. So that’s what we’re talking about on the blog this week – exactly how to ditch overwhelm and move forward in your business, even during times of stress and uncertainty.
I’m even sharing some of the mindset and strategy hacks I’m teaching my clients to keep them out of overwhelm and keep them making money right now!
HOW TO MANAGE OVERWHELM IN YOUR BIZ – HACK #1
To be clear, these hacks aren’t going to cure or fix your overwhelm. Because your overwhelm doesn’t need curing or fixing anyway. Feeling overwhelmed is a perfectly normal feeling to have right now – in your life and business. I honestly don’t know a single human who hasn’t experienced overwhelm recently. *raises hand too* 🙋♀️
The difference is in how you respond to your overwhelm. Whether you let it paralyze you or freak you out, or just be a thing you don’t let stand in your way.
So that’s the first mindset hack – don’t let overwhelm stand in your way. You’re in charge here. Let yourself feel the overwhelm. Accept that it’s a normal human response right now. But don’t wait for it to go away to take action. Take the action you know you need to take anyway.
And if you’re unsure about “what” action you need to take, trust your gut and take any small action. Doing this gets you out of the overwhelm loop and builds momentum.
HOW TO MANAGE OVERWHELM IN YOUR BIZ – HACK #2
As a therapist and coach, here’s one thing I teach my clients to help them stay out of overwhelm so they can keep creating results:
The reason any human feels overwhelm is because they’re thinking too many steps ahead. They’re thinking about the 10th step instead of the next right step in front of them.
So the mindset hack here is to use your feelings of overwhelm as a clue that you’re currently thinking too many steps ahead. Let this feeling prompt you to take a breath, slow down, and identify the next right step in front of you.
For example, if you’re feeling overwhelmed about how you’re going to hit your sales goals in May, that’s a clue to slow down, breathe, and focus on the one next step you can take TODAY in this moment to make more sales.
This doesn’t mean you don’t plan ahead or think long-term – there’s a time and place for that. It just means you generally keep your thoughts focused on the next right step in front of you.
HOW TO MANAGE OVERWHELM IN YOUR BIZ – HACK #3
Here’s the thing – not only is the feeling of overwhelm an uncomfortable feeling that we don’t like, it’s a feeling that can seriously slow us down or sabotage our results.
It can paralyze us, scare us, make us doubt ourselves, prompt us to take irrational action, and on and on.
And when it comes to our biz, this looks like doing nothing, or doing all the wrong things that spin us around but never move us forward.
So the third hack is about using your mindset tools to get yourself to neutral when you feel overwhelmed. And then make decisions in your business from that place of neutrality.
Meaning – do things that work to help you reduce the intensity of how you’re feeling. Things like: journal, meditate, tapping, deep breathing, go for a walk, take a hot bath – whatever works to get you back to neutral. And once you’re there, then identify the next right action step to take.
That’s how you don’t let overwhelm hold you back. That’s how you keep moving forward in your business, even when you feel overwhelmed. That’s how you make business decisions from a place of neutrality, not a place of overwhelm.
Now I’d love to hear from YOU! What’s your best hack for getting to neutral when you feel overwhelmed? Or, how else do you keep moving forward even when you feel overwhelmed?
